ITA Airways Launches New Direct Flight from Washington D.C. to Rome Fiumicino, Expanding Intercontinental Network
ITA Airways, the Italian flag carrier, has launched a new flight from Washington D.C. to Rome Fiumicino, in celebration of Italy's Festa della Repubblica.
The inaugural flight departed from Dulles International Airport at 4:20 pm local time on June 2nd, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony held at the gate before departure. The new route marks the expansion of ITA Airways' intercontinental network for the summer of 2023, which is supported by the entry into service of the new Airbus A330neo, named after the Olympic champion Gelindo Bordin.
The Airbus A330neo is equipped with the latest technology, digitalization, innovation, efficiency, and design, all Made in Italy. The interiors are designed by Walter De Silva, and the menus are created by Michelin-starred chef Gian Piero Vivalda, while the flight crew's uniforms are designed with the stylistic advice of Brunello Cucinelli.
The new direct flight from Washington to Rome initially operates five times a week, with plans to increase to daily service during the peak summer season, from August 1st to October 28th, 2023. ITA Airways aims to become the reference carrier for both the Italian community in Washington and the local and international business community working in the US capital, offering direct access to Italy, Europe, and the entire Mediterranean region through its hub at Rome Fiumicino.
The United States is ITA Airways' largest international market and the most strategic after Italy, with the largest population of Italian origin outside of Italy. As such, direct flights from North America to Italy provide not only tourist and business travel options but also ensure connectivity to the Italian community.
In addition, thanks to a code-share agreement with Delta, ITA Airways customers have access to over 100 domestic destinations through the US carrier's national network, with 40 destinations served through New York JFK and a similar number of connections from Boston, Miami, Los Angeles, and Washington.
The new route is a significant step in ITA Airways' expansion plans, which aim to strengthen ties between Italy and the United States, both economically and culturally. With its commitment to excellence and innovation, ITA Airways is poised to become a leading global carrier, representing the best of Italian style and craftsmanship.
